Seguendo le orme del padre, il tedesco Thomas Wörle esordisce come allenatore del FC Bayern Women’s vincendo la Bundesliga alla sua prima stagione sulla panchina della società, alla seconda il DFB-Pokal e nel 2015 il Campionato tedesco dopo 39 lunghi anni di assenza del trofeo, ma soprattutto replicando il successo l’anno seguente e portando il Bayern nella sua era di maggior successo. In passato, nella carriera da giocatore ha militato con FC Augsburg, 1860 Munichs, Kickers Offenbach e Greuther Fürth, inoltre conta 30 presenze in Nazionale.

Cosa pensi della stagione in UEFA Women’s Champions League 2018/19?
Per ora sono molto soddisfatto. Abbiamo giocato quattro partite durante la stagione della UWCL: due contro Spartak Subotica e due contro FC Zürich, e abbiamo vinto tutte queste con un chiaro gioco, senza subire nessun goal. Zürich è stato un avversario più forte dello Subotica, ma penso che abbiamo giocato molto bene e gestito ogni incontro dominandolo. Ora siamo quasi agli ottavi che è la seconda volta in tutta la storia del FC Bayern Women. Questo è già un grande successo per noi. Ora le cose si stanno facendo molto serie e siamo focalizzati sui quarti di finale contro SK Slavia Praha del 2019. Certamente siamo consapevoli della forza del Praha e sarà molto ingannevole. Ma siamo positivi.

Chi pensi sarà la vincitrice di questo anno?
Credo che Olympique Lion e Vfl Wolfsburg, finaliste della scorsa edizione, siano ancora le squadre più forti in Europa e sono ancora le favorite di questo anno. Stanno dominando la Champions League da diversi anni e probabilmente lo faranno ancora. Sarà molto eccitante per chiunque vedere ancora loro competere nei quarti di finale.

Quale squadre temi di più? E la giocatrice?
Non temo nessuna squadra o giocatrice, questo è un modo errato di vedere le cose. Ma comunque ho grande rispetto delle squadre come Lyon e Wolfsburg. Ci son squadre che sono molto forti e stanno facendo molto bene, ma queste due hanno un grande vantaggio quando si tratta di esperienze di massimo livello.

Qual è il tuo modulo preferito?
Una formazione cambia sempre ed è molto dinamica. Per cui è difficile rispondere. Ma a livello teorico considererei un 4-3-3.

Coach Thomas Wörle, Bayern München: “Things are getting really serious…But we are confident”

Following his father’s career, the German Thomas Wörle began as coach of FC Bayern Women’s winning Bundesliga Cup in his first season, in his second season the DFB-Pokal and in 2015 the German Championship for the first time for FC Bayern after 39 years, and so creating the most successful era ever for the Club. In the past, as football player he played for FC Augsburg, 1860 Munichs, Kickers Offenbach e Greuther Fürth, inoltre conta 30 presenze in Nazionale.

What do you think about your season in UEFA Women’s Champions League 2018-19?
So far I’m very satisfied. We’ve had four games this UWCL season – two against Spartak Subotica and two against FC Zürich. And we won all of them with a clean sheet, without any goal against us. Zürich was a stronger opponent than Subotica but I think we did very well and handled every match pretty commanding. Now we are amongst the final eight which happened just for the second time ever in FC Bayern Women’s history. This is already a huge succes for us. Now things are getting really serious and we are very looking forward to the quarter finals against SK Slavia Praha in 2019. Of course we know how strong Praha is and it will be thrilling for both teams. But we are confident.

Who do you think is going to be the winner of this year?
I think Olympique Lyon and VfL Wolfsburg, last seasons finalists, are still the strongest teams in Europe and to me they are the favourites this year again. They are dominating the Champions League for several years now and will probably keep it that way. It will be very exciting for everyone to see them competing in the quarter finals already.

What is the team that you fear the most in UWCL? And the players you fear the most?
I don’t fear a team or a player, that’s the wrong wording. I do have great respect for successful teams like Lyon and Wolfsburg. There are also other teams who are very strong and doing very well, but Wolfsburg and Lyon do have a big advantage when it comes to experience on the highest possible level.

What is your favorite formation?
A formation is always shifting and in motion, you know. Therefore it’s difficult to answer properly. But theoretically I would consider a 4-3-3 formation.
