La National Women’s Soccer League accoglie 56 giovani atlete nel NWSL Draft 2024, raggiungendo così il più alto numero di giocatrici selezionate nella storia del draft.
Lo Utah Royals FC, club all’esordio, ha fatto sei selezioni, tra cui la prima scelta assoluta che è ricaduta su Ally Sentnor, dell’University of North Carolina (UNC). Sempre da UNC arriva la seconda scelta assoluta, con il Bay FC, anch’esso all’esordio, che ha selezionato il difensore Savy King. Il Washington Spirit ha selezionato la terza scelta assoluta del draft, accogliendo la centrocampista Croix Bethune, University of Georgia, all’interno del club della capitale americana.
La classe NWSL Draft 2024 presenta giocatrici di 30 università statunitensi differenti, tra cui cinque che hanno visto una giocatrice scelta nel draft per la prima volta nella storia dell’università: Utah State University, St. Mary’s College, University of Pittsburgh, University of Memphis and University of Iowa. University of Virginia e Stanford continuano le loro serie di avere almeno una scelta in ogni draft. Con sei giocatrici selezionati quest’anno l’University of North Carolina è l’università che ha avuto più scelte nella storia: 27 giocatrici.
