Non sbaglia il Portogallo, ad Hamilton allo stadio Waikato, che nella seconda giornata del girone E dei Mondiali femminili batte il Vietnam. Le reti nel primo tempo di Telma Encarnacao, la prima in una Coppa del Mondo per le portoghesi, e Kika Nazareth firmano il 2-0 delle lusitane, che salgono cosi a quota 3 punti condannando il Vietnam all’eliminazione. Le europee sfiorano il vantaggio nelle battute iniziali quando Silva, al 4′, manda di un soffio sopra la traversa appena entrata in area. Il parziale si sblocca però al 7′: Lucia Alves crossa nel mezzo e Encarnacao concludere in rete da distanza ravvicinata.
Il raddoppio si materealizza, poi, al 21′ quando Nazareth entra nei sedici metri e dall’altezza del dischetto trafigge l’incolpevole Thi Kim Thanh. Nella ripresa, invece, portoghesi poco lucide sotto porta con Nazareth, che su cross dalla sinistra spedisce alta, e Silva chiusa da Tran prima da calciare sul fondo a porta praticamente sguarnita. Alla mezzora occasionissima per Nazareth che si divora il tris dopo la traversa di Joana Marchao. Il Portogallo affronterà ora gli Stati Uniti, mentre il Vietnam l’Olanda. La portoghese Kika Nazareth (20 anni e 252 giorni) è la più giovane giocatrice a segnare per una nazione europea alle finali del 2023 finora.
Portugal win, make history and dream on
This Thursday 27 July, the team led by Francisco Neto won 2-0 against Vietnam and made history again, with their first victory in World Championships and in their debut year. The National Women’s Team A, entered the game knowing that victory was the only thing that mattered to continue to dream and in the 7th minute the dream became reality, with the goal of Telma Encarnação. The Marítimo player went into history as the first ever to score for Portugal in a World Cup.
The goal gave to Portugal extra motivation, which they did not waste, and in the 21st minute, Kika Nazareth, after an assist from Telma, scored the second. She also goes down in history as the youngest ever to score in the World Cup, at 20 years and 8 months, with the Quinas jersey, leaving Ronaldo and Gonçalo Ramos behind. Portugal proved superior to the Asian team and controlled the game from start to end, with many goal opportunities, some of them very clear, but the result didn’t change. “As Navegadoras” keep dreaming and a win in their next match against the United States on Tuesday 1 August at 08:00 will take Portugal into the next round.
